The Power Of The Pause
Prayer for Sacred Pauses
Goddess of the sacred pause
please grant me the courage
To lay aside swiftness
and take up slowness,
to embrace limitations as learning,
silence as stabilizing,
waiting as worthy,
and sitting as divine.
Goddess of the sacred pause
Help me to know stillness as strength,
patience as powerful,
and healing time
as holy necessity.

Some call me “high energy.” They are not wrong. On most days, I have a ton of energy. I am bouncy. Until I’m not. Until I fall, sit, be.
I found this prayer in a moon calendar I had bought a couple years ago. I tore it out because I wanted a reminder of the value in the pause. For someone who is easily excited and excitable, a luver of carpe diem, a let’s drop everything and do “x” girl, learning the power and sacredness of the pause has been just that, a powerful learning turned gift. Something which I now consciously create.
It is not my normal rhythm. Run, jump, dance, now that is my norm.
And yet, the pause has its own strength and vibration.
The sacred pause leads me inwards, and let’s face it, maybe that’s why I sometimes run. I mean, sometimes in the stillness the “gremlins” come out to play. Maybe I don’t want to play with them. Sometimes they bring sadness, anger, loneliness with them; feelings which I can avoid by playing, twirling, by being busy.
This prayer reminds me to befriend the Goddess of the sacred pause, to summon my courage to lay aside activity and take up stillness. It takes courage to feel the feels. When I enter the stillness, surrender to whatever she holds in the space, I am restored, I am reconnected with myself and more grounded in my own knowing. The sacred pause, pregnant with healing, a full and sacred place.
My prayer for us all is that we dance in our own way with the sacred pause.
