Stop Self Defecating!

Stop Self Defecating!

I was having dinner with my dear cousin, catching up on the latest and greatest in our lives. She was sharing frustration about being in her head, listening to the negative voices that were sliming her with feelings of inadequacy and shame. Something I could certainly relate to.

She said, “I don’t mean to be self-defecating, but…wait, that’s not the right word. What’s that word?”
I started cracking up. “You mean, self deprecating?”

We burst out laughing, and then, I told her, “No, actually you said it perfectly the first time! I luv self-defecating, that’s it! Because it’s truly like shitting all over yourself when you listen to the negative self-chatter  ”

I mean, come on…You can relate, right?

We all have a judgy voice inside, that deems ourselves, others, and situations, as less than, or just plain bad and wrong. They begin as insidious thoughts, a mild odor lingering around, getting stronger the more we “should” on ourselves.

I call this voice, The Annihilator. This voice makes me wrong for being me. It tells me that I should have done/been/said  “x.” Or that I should be more understanding, kind, generous, etc… Bottom line, it destroys all sense of peace, curiosity, creativity, and joy. It leaves a nasty stench.

What to do?

Wrap that being in a bouquet of roses :).
